The Big 3 will look to keep their dominance as NASCAR heads to the next road-course race of the year: the GoBowling at the Glen 220.
Even though Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr. are the favorites once more, on this 2.45-mile track at Watkins Glen there are bound to be a few drivers, that you might not anticipate, threatening the leaders.
AJ Allmendinger has just two top-10 finishes this season, but with four top-10s in his last five races at the Glen such as a triumph in 2014, he’ll be at or near the top all day long as his aggressive nature plays nicely on these street courses – even when Watkins Glen is not as technically challenging as Sonoma.
Denny Hamlin might not be the exact same sort of sleeper pick as Allmendinger, but with five top-10 finishes – including four in the top 5 in his last five road-course races – that the 37-year-old needs to be optimistic that he can catch his first win of this season in New York on Sunday.
