We covered the loss of the enormous upcoming heavyweight co-main occasion for UFC Fight Night 76 yesterday with the statement that Stipe Miocic was made to back from his fight against Ben Rothwell, however there’s more to the story and also a few other fight announcements/injuries to discuss today. UFC appears to be searching for a short notice substitute for Miocic to intervene and combat Rothwell in Dublin, and a few notable names put their names into the ring. The first was Matt Mitrione, who was fighting very well against Rothwell before this season before diving right into a takedown effort that got him submitted instantly via guillotine choke. Mitrione would not probably be the primary option owing to his speedy defeat, but he’s a situation considering his desire for salvation. The largest problem with Mitrione right now is that the fact that he’s now booked to battle Travis Browne in January. The other and most fascinating replacement chance came out of left field as world class kickboxer Tyrone Spong asked an opportunity to fight Rothwell. Spong, who currently trains together with the Blackzilians in Boco Ratan, has made a name for himself as perhaps the very best light heavyweight striker in the world with a kickboxing listing of 74-7-1 with one no contest. His mixed martial arts qualifications, however, are much more sparse. Spong is now 2-0 in MMA, with just two successes under the World collection of Fighting banner, although he has not fought with an MMA bout in over two years and has not competed professionally in any battle sport since suffering a leg injury against Gokhan Saki 18 months ago. The biggest problem here would be money, as I am sure signing Spong to a UFC deal on short notice wouldn’t come cheap. In other injury replacement news… Justin Lawrence vs Emmanuel Sanchez — Bellator 145 Regrettably, an injury to former two-time Bellator winner Pat Curran has forced him from his fight against Justin Lawrence just over three months before his bout was set to happen. In steps Emmanuel Sanchez, a 25-year old fighter out of the Roufusport Fitness Center in Milwaukee using an 11-2 record overall. Sanchez is now 3-1 beneath the Bellator bannerlosing a decision to Curran already and most recently picked up a split decision victory over Henry Corrales just two and a half ago at Bellator 143. This will surely not be an easy for fight for Sanchez, particularly on short notice and with such a quick turnaround. I would expect Lawrence for a moderate to heavy favorite by the time that the chances are drawn up.
